On both occasions we used the full design and build service and Mike was able to accommodate some very specific design requests resulting in a building solution that was not only sympathetic, but also innovative. Mike and his team are always considerate and tidy on site and we have no hesitation in recommending them. Each time our works came in on budget and on time with a very small snagging list which was very promptly dealt with. The whole team are efficient, energetic, friendly and helpful and in this day and age it is rare to have the same team on site when projects are 8 years apart. They worked hard and throughout both projects provided extremely helpful advice which meant a relatively stress-free build. We wouldn’t hesitate to use them again in the future."

"Mike Wilkinson designed and built a kitchen extension for us and carried out some other internal renovations, including knocking two bedrooms into one and installing a new shower room, in 2012/2013. We worked with Mike from the design stage for our extension and renovations plans. He very quickly produced drawings for review and managed the planning application process for us. We had previously had a planning refusal with drawings produced by a different Architect. Mike’s drawings were approved by the council and our build began just a few weeks later. Mike’s team were all polite, courteous and friendly. They made sure everything was left safe and secure each day when they were inside the house and were mindful of the fact we had young children. Their work is of a high standard and they do not cut corners. We are very pleased with the outcome.

Mike Wilkinson carried out a major extension to our property in 2015. The work involved a single storey extension to the rear and side of the property, along with a full loft conversion and roof replacement to create an additional bedroom. They also carried out extensive internal alterations to the existing building, fitted a new kitchen, along with external rendering to the existing top parts of the house.
Right from our initial meeting, Mike was a pleasure to work with. He took the time to properly discuss and understand what we wanted to achieve, and we had many meetings with him before the work started to fully agree and finalise the project brief. Mike came up with a lot of ideas on how to achieve what we wanted and to maximise the use of space. He also wasn’t afraid to point out where he felt some of our ideas were unrealistic or could be improved. He provided a fully itemised and detailed quotation, which then formed the basis of the monthly invoices as the work was carried out. Any additional items were fully costed, discussed and agreed before carrying out the work.
Throughout the course of the work, which took 6 months as originally planned, we remained living in the property with 2 young children. Mike’s team were always extremely courteous, professional and friendly. They arrived on time every day, worked a full day with set break periods, and always left the house habitable at the end of the day. Mike maintained excellent communication with us throughout the project, and any problems or concerns were dealt with promptly.
The quality of the finished work is excellent. As someone who works in the construction industry I took a close interest in the quality of the work and the materials used. Since the work was completed we have had only a couple of minor issues which Mike dealt with immediately. It is now 3 years since the work was completed and we have not experienced any other problems. Considering the scale and complexity for the work carried out, this is outstanding.
In summary we would highly recommend Mike Wilkinson, for both the level of service provided while the work is carried out, and also for the quality of the finished product.

Mike and his team have now completed two building projects for us, in 2014 and 2017.
At the outset we discussed our needs and possible designs with him and he then produced a number of solutions that could meet our needs. The preferred solution was then developed to incorporate other features on our ‘wish-list’ and some that he recommended. We also dropped a number of features that he felt would be inappropriate, lack value or add unnecessary complexity.
An aspect of the design development process that we came to respect was Mike’s knowledge of what the local planning authority and building regulatory inspectors would find acceptable. This was evidenced by their approval of both his design and building technique at every stage.
His ‘design and build’ philosophy is to work with the customer to achieve the best possible outcome in terms of what is practically feasible and aesthetically pleasing, whilst meeting the customer’s needs and wants within their budget.
The projects were completed in a structured manner by Mike’s fully employed building teams. We found all of his employees to be personable, gave attention to detail, were excellent timekeepers and left the site clean and tidy at the end of each working day.
In terms of budgetary control, I found Mike’s inventory/invoicing system clear and easy to follow. When unforeseen changes had to be made (almost inevitable in any large project) or indeed, when requested by the customer, a ‘parts and labour’ quotation was provided and then incorporated with the running aggregate.
In summary, I have found that Mike Wilkinson provides an excellent ‘start to finish’ building service. His involvement at the outset when you, the customer, are trying to formulate a design that will meet your needs, desires and your budget, is invaluable. The process of developing a design when working with him leaves little room for any misunderstandings over interpretation or cost. As a result, the building work can proceed smoothly and to the satisfaction of all parties!

Mike designed our single-storey rear extension - principally to create an integrated kitchen/diner, an extended living room and a utility room - in close consultation with us and handled the planning and building regulations approvals process in a seamless way. Mike then co-ordinated and supervised both the build and fit-out by his superb team. We cannot speak highly enough of their expertise, professionalism, courtesy and reliability. Where sub-contractors were needed for specific disciplines, their people too were of the highest calibre.
